Moving up

Today I finished writing on my note cards to have backup info for my presentation. I feel much more relieved from all the frustration since now all I have to worry about is practice my tpresentation and get feedback to fix the power point. I don't have many slides but I am going to be talking for a good amount of time for each slide. I was happy with adding the 2 videos in there because I think if there is video it makes it more interesting and actually shows the panel how you were working. I expect to know my presentation well by the end of this week and have a lot of feed back to make it better.

Getting Organized

After everything I got done last year I feel like I still need more information to answer my foundation question. Racial profiling is a big topic which there are many questions to it and answers. There is many information needed to know when doing research on a topic like this. So far since first day of school I have been organizing all of my work together, and looking over some of last years work to refresh my mind. I started looking at my interview questions and fixed them up a little also adding more. Hopefully soon I would interview Harvard law proffesor Charles Ogletree who has experience in many racial profiling cases. Another thing I worked on was getting some quotes and images that would help later when I start making my powerpoint. For next week, I would start working towards my outline to make it final.

Answering Questions

Today I started to answer some of my foundation questions. I looked up some of the websites from my webliography to get notes from them and also that might be close to answering some of the questions. Answering some of the questions would not be as difficult as others therefore i would focus first one the ones that seem to be harder to answer then i would look up for the easy ones.

Action Plan Presentation

Few days ago my classmates and i presented to everyone what our topic is and what our action plan was. Many of the other students topic were interesting. Presenting our topic was a good thing. it helped me to see and understand more what other people are doing and what i need to get done. It also gave some ideas for instance part of my action plan was interviewing a professor from University Of Pittsburgh and then one of the students advice that maybe interviewing a police officer would be helpful too since my project has to do with police racial profiling. We have also already turned in our writing proposal.

4TH Amendement

"The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized."

The 4th amendement explains that no officers are allowed to search anyones property unless they have a warrant that has been approved by court and that the court know what is it that they are looking for. This amendement relates alot to racial profiling because many people officers disobey this amendement and pullin over someone and searching them for no reason is the same thing as searching someones home with no warrant.

Piled up

Today we went over the proposal prewriting questionnaire and talked about the purpose and objectives for our project. What i started doing is getting my ideas together to answer What my project is and why am i doing it. To answer them i still need to break it down on the Why am i doing it part. For this part i believe there are many positive reasons. In order for me to get my ideas together and answer this question i have to compare them and see which one is best. However, i need to start thinking much more because my work would start to pile up.

DID YOU KNOW?

  • Approximately 32 million people have already been victims of racial profiling in America including all races
  • Many people think racial profiling can help stop "The War On Drugs"
  • Police stoping and searching cars is the number one way that can lead to racial profiling
  • Hispanics and African Americans are the most being victimized
  • Not only adults but Young Teenagers are victims of this
  • Racial Profiling Makes officers get confuse and think wrong about terrorist attacks for example, The oklahoma city bombing. The victims were actually 2 white males when police thought it was "Araban Terrorist"
  • Raced Based policies does not make our community any safer. Things eventually get more challenging
  • Racial Profiling makes countrys around look bad in ways of thinking that we do not like people of different races
  • According to human rights organizations racial profiling has actually increased ever since the attack on September 11
  • After September 11 president Bush wanted racial profiling to stop however, he made immigration and law enforcements policies tougher by coming up with the "National Security Entry/Exit Registration System" which requires male visitors in the US over the age 16 to resubmit applications.
  • Racial Profiling can create xenophobia or hate crime against minorities

Photo Collage

The photo collage I believe is a good and createive way to show what our topic of our projects is. Some of the pictures show strong actions and show specifically what your trying to represent. The Image with all the eyes symbolize all different types of diversity which conbines it with some of the races that are sometime discriminated. Other images symbolize people fighting for equality and a stop to racial discrimination.

Reading Time

Today i read an article that explained 3 different ways of how people can confuse "Racial Profiling" with. It is a very difficult subject that many people think different about it. Some people even ask "Does it exist?." The article also talked about 3 different cases relating to 3 people of different race being pulled over by the police. By readin this article i think i gor some ideas of what questions i should add to answer my main question. I would keep more articles for more explanation.

I met with the immigration attorney and we discussed the different things i can come up with to work on my projects. The main thing on mind right now is researching about police racial profiling. She gave me information about it and we talked about different places where i can go such as the community justice center where i can get information and look through data of racial profiling cases. Also, she said i can look over her data and compare with others.
